Overview

NeoCAPD is an innovative mobile application designed specifically for patients undergoing Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD). This application aims to simplify and enhance the self-monitoring process, enabling patients to track key health parameters like fluid volume, weight, blood pressure, and the color of dialysis fluid. By offering essential features like daily tracking, calorie monitoring, and AI assistance, NeoCAPD seeks to improve patient compliance, health outcomes, and overall quality of life.

Background

Kidney failure is a major health issue globally, affecting millions each year, with a 12.5% prevalence in Indonesia, leading to over 42,000 deaths annually. Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) is a crucial treatment option for chronic kidney disease patients, offering better survival rates compared to hemodialysis. However, CAPD requires rigorous self-monitoring, a task that many patients struggle with, resulting in a high rate of non-compliance—up to 74%. The NeoCAPD app addresses these challenges by providing an intuitive platform for daily health tracking and management, ultimately reducing complications and improving patient outcomes.

Solution

The design of NeoCAPD followed the Design Thinking methodology, which focuses on user-centric solutions.

• Empathize: We conducted research to understand the unique challenges faced by CAPD patients, including the difficulty of maintaining consistent self-monitoring and managing their health.
• Define: Based on the insights gathered, we defined key user needs, such as the ability to track fluid volume, weight, blood pressure, and the color of dialysis fluid, as well as the need for nutritional monitoring.
• Ideate: Brainstorming sessions helped generate ideas for features like NeoToday (daily health tracking), NeoTracker (calorie management), NeoConnect (community support forum), and NeoAssist (AI assistance).
• Prototype: We developed user interfaces and wireframes to visualize and refine the app's features, ensuring ease of use and a smooth user experience.
• Test: The prototype was tested with users to gather feedback and make improvements, ensuring that the app meets the needs of CAPD patients and enhances their daily self-monitoring routine.

Through these steps, NeoCAPD was created to provide a comprehensive and accessible solution to help patients manage their health and improve their quality of life.
